Condurango
 
Alternative Names: Eagle Vine, Eagle-Vine Bark, Marsdenia Cundurango, Condurangorinde, and Ecorce de Condurango.. Condurango (Marsdenia condurango or Gonolobus condurango) is a digestive aid; an herbal medicine used to help food digestion, increase stomach juices, and help stimulate the appetite. Condurango grows on the western slopes of the Andes in Ecuador, Peru, and Colombia.

Function; Reasons For Use
Condurango improves digestion by stimulating the production of saliva and digestive juices. Its effectiveness against human cancer remains unconfirmed, however, and its former use as a treatment for stomach cancer has been discontinued. Condurango helps with appetite loss and indigestion.

Directions
Condurango can be made into a tea. Cool the tea, then strain. Condurango also can be made into a medicinal wine. Add 50-100gm (between one-quarter and one-half cup) of crushed Condurango to each liter of wine. Take 1 cup of Condurango tea or 1 liquor glass of wine with each meal.

Condurango is taken orally. The usual daily dosage is:
  • Aqueous extract: 200-500mg
  • Alcohol solution (tincture): 2-5gm (about one-half to 1 teaspoonful)
  • Liquid extract: 2-4gm
  • Crushed bark: 2-4gm.
